Biography

Mr. Richard Essex was the Founder and served as Partner at W250 Ventures. Mr. Richard Essex served as Board Member at Zuku. He served as Partner at East Africa Capital Partners. He is the Chief Development Officer at EACP. Mr. Essex has over twenty-five years of investment banking, media and telecoms transaction experience and has been pursuing wireless broadband and ICT opportunities in Africa since 2005. Mr. Essex plays a lead role in fund raising for the Fund, where he is the CDO. He also plays a key role in acquisition strategy for the Fund. Mr. Essex headed the management buy-in of BBCWW and the ITV-owned BDS, Europe's largest provider of TV listings information, and won the competitive bidding process to acquire BDS. In September 1998, Mr. Essex founded Rosebud Ltd as a subsidiary of the British Film Institute (BFI) and served as the firm's CEO until April 2000. Rosebud was established to commercialise the BFI's collection of film and TV assets, the largest in the world. In this role Mr. Essex developed strong ties with Apple Inc, and Oracle toward creating an integrated database and video streaming platform development prior to the advent of Apple TV. Mr. Essex was a Director for NTL (now Virgin Media) from August 1994 until February 1998 during that company's dynamic period of growth. Mr. Essex received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Art in 1980 from Washington and Lee University at Lexington, Virginia in 1980 and graduated from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Education Program in 2007.
