Biography
Mr. Austin Che is a Co-Founder & serves as Head, Strategy at Ginkgo Bioworks. He serves as Venture Partner at Third Culture Capital. He also serves as Board Member at Aether Bio. As co-founder of Ginkgo Bioworks, he brings over 10 years of experience in biotechnology, and genetic engineering, and an executive track record of scaling one of the world's most respected synthetic biology companies. He is currently focused on strategic partnerships, investments, and expanding the Ginkgo ecosystem by working with non-traditional customers. He previously led software development at Ginkgo and built out a number of functions including the finance, people ops, IT, and infrastructure teams. Founded in 2008 by him and his colleagues from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he played a critical role in developing Ginkgo's platform to program cells as easily as computers across a wide variety of applications including food, agriculture, industrial chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. He helped take Ginkgo Bioworks public in 2021 in a deal worth $15B and the company continues to produce custom organisms for a wide range of industries. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT working in the nascent field of synthetic biology. He also has a B.S. in Computer Science and A.B. in Psychology from Stanford University where he was awarded the departmental best honors thesis.
