Biography

Ms. Dna Ana Botin was the Founder and served as Vice President of Fundación Empresa y Crecimiento. She worked at J.P.MORGAN, in Madrid and New York, in the Treasury and Latin American Divisions. She was appointed Vice President in 1985. In 1988, she joined Banco Santander, where she played a key role in the international expansion of the Bank in the 1990s and was responsible for the Latin American, Corporate Banking, Asset Management, and Treasury areas. She would later become the CEO of Banco Santander de Negocios, and has been a member of Banco Santander's Board and Executive Committee since 1989 and a member of its Management Committee since 1994. Between 2002 and November 2010, she held the post of President of Banesto. Under her leadership, the bank has made a clear commitment to innovation and SMEs. In recognition of this work, Banesto was revered as the 'Best Bank in Spain' in the years 2008, 2009, and 2010 by the prestigious financial journal Euromoney. She has been serving as the CEO of Santander UK, plc since December 2010. Ana Patricia Botín has been a member of the Boards of Directors of Instead (1999-2010) and Generali (2004-2011) and a member of the Advisory Committee of the New York Stock Exchange and the Inter-American Development Bank. She is the founder and Vice Chairman of Fundación Empresa y Crecimiento, the co-founder and Chairman of Fundación Conocimiento y Desarrollo and the co-founder and Chairman of Fundación Empieza por Educar. Since 2007, she has been a member of the Board of Georgetown University, serving as the Chair of the Club Excelencia en Gestión between March 2007 and March 2010. Since May 2008 she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the European Association for Banking and Financial History. She has also been a member of the INSEAD Advisory Council since 2011.
