Biography

Dr. Gustavo Henrique Franco is a Co-Founder and serves as Senior Advisor at Rio Bravo Investimentos DTVM. He also served as Senior Advisors at EMAlternatives. He is also one of the company's founding partners. Previously, he was Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil, after having served as the Bank's director of international affairs between 1993 and 1997. In both of those positions, he had a key role in the conception and implementation of the 1994 Real Plan, which included establishing foreign exchange policies aimed at monetary stabilization and trade liberalization, creating exchange-rate bands, and managing international reserves. He led the restructuring of Brazil's banking system, including the privatization of several state-owned banks. Before going into public service, he taught economics at the Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, an activity he resumed in 2004. He has been a visiting professor and held fellowships at the University of California Los Angeles, Stanford, and Harvard. He serves on the board of Banco Daycoval. He has a bachelor's (1979) and a master's degree (1982) in economics from the Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, and a master's degree and Ph.D. (1986) from Harvard University
