Biography

Mr. Mark Alloway served as Board Member at Funding London. In addition to a deep understanding of public sector organizations, Mark brings a wealth of experience in SME finance, micro finance and development in emerging economies. Mark has been at the International Finance Corporation (IFC, a subsidiary of the World Bank) since 1993 investing loans and equity in financial institutions, private equity funds and SMEs in emerging markets worldwide. Currently based in Paris, he heads up IFC's business development with financial sector clients in Western Europe. Previously he was an Associate Director in IFC's Global Financial Markets Department in Washington, and was responsible for IFC's financial sector equity investments worldwide. During his sixteen years with IFC, he has worked extensively on financial markets projects in the Latin American and Caribbean region as well as South, Central and Eastern Europe including Russia, Turkey and Central Asia. Prior to joining IFC in 1993, Mark spent five years in international private equity investment with 3i plc, Britain's leading development capital company covering the UK and Spain. Mark's career before 3i was as a Petroleum Engineer in Venezuela, Brasil and UK. He holds a degree in Physics from Oxford University (1977), a post-graduate degree in Petroleum Engineering from London University (1982) and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management (1987). He also attended the executive MBA programme at Harvard Business School (2001).
