Biography

Dr. Álvaro Monge Zegarra serves as Partner at Grupo Macro. He is a specialist in applied economic research, quantitative methods, economic development (particularly microeconomic development), public policy assessment and poverty-reduction strategies. Throughout his professional career he has worked as an associate researcher at the Research Centre at the Universidad del Pacífico (CIUP) and has participated in research and consulting projects sponsored by the Consorcio de Investigaciones Económicas y Sociales (Economic and Social Research Consortium) (CIES), the University of Sussex, Save the Children, Learning Skills Council. He has done the same for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Andean Development Corporation (CAF), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Office of the President of the Council of Ministers (Peru), among others, including NGOs and both national and international private companies. He has also worked as a university professor at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at Universidad del Pacifico and Universidad Catolica and has been a Teaching Assistant at the University of Sussex. He has published his research work in specialized media, both nationally and internationally, and his opinion pieces have been published in the leading national news media. Dr. Monge has a degree in Economics from Universidad del Pacifico (Peru), and an M.A. in Economic Development from the University of Sussex (England) and is a doctoral candidate (Ph.D.) in Economics.
