Hank Blauvelt Ph.D General Information
Biography
Dr. Hank Blauvelt served as Chief Technology Officer at Emcore. He joined EMCORE in December 2007 as Chief Scientist with principal responsibility for the development of technologies for linear fiber optic applications. Prior to joining EMCORE, he was Chief Technology Officer for Xponent from October 2001 until 2007. He was employed by Ortel Corporation between 1985 and 2000 when the company was acquired by Lucent Technologies. He distinguished himself by important contributions to the design of optical transmitters and receivers for transmission of CATV signals over fiber optic links and was the principal inventor of the Ortel patents related to reducing noise and distortion in the links. In 1992 he was promoted to Vice President of Fiber Optics Technology at Ortel, and after Ortel's acquisition, he was named Chief Technologist for Optical Access Products at Lucent Technologies/Agere Systems. He received his B.S. in Applied Physics from Cornell University and earned his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Caltech. He has been awarded more than 60 U.S. patents.
