Biography

Mr. William Miller is the Founder and serves as Managing Partner of FirstMile Ventures. Mr. Miller serves as Executive Chairman of the Board at Axellio. He serves as Board Member at Chromatic Technologies, Altia, Falconstor Software. After building and investing in companies, primarily along the coasts, he began to notice more and more investment opportunities in his backyard in Colorado that were struggling to find capital. The need for a Colorado-based seed fund was clear. Prior to his investing career, he was an entrepreneur. Most notably, he was the CTO and co-founder of StorageNetworks, a Boston-based pioneer of the Infrastructure as a Service (now known as "cloud") model. In three short years, he raised over $100 million in venture capital, grew to $120 million in revenue and an IPO on the NASDAQ in 2000. He also co-founded solid state disk company CERAM and co-founded nonvolatile Ferroelectric RAM start-up Krysalis which was acquired by National Semiconductor. He also had a successful run as a storage systems sales executive and served as the CEO of two enterprise software companies, XAware and Axellio. Prior to founding FirstMile, he was an active angel investor. Of the 26 companies he invested in, several notable outcomes include Andiamo Systems (acquired by Cisco), Polyserve (acquired by HP), NuSpeed (acquired by Cisco) and Blue Spruce Networks (acquired by Oracle). He grew up outside of Chicago and studied chemistry at the University of Illinois. He began his career as a semiconductor process engineer at Philips Signetics. He holds 12 U.S. patents covering inventions in integrated circuit fabrication, integrated circuit memory design, and data storage systems design. He co-founded and served as Board Member at Proximerge.
