Venturing into new territory: A look at VC’s record-breaking 2021

To say that US venture capital had a huge year in 2021 would be an understatement—in fact, it hit a new all-time annual high. In this webinar, PitchBook analysts and industry experts discussed the Q4 2021 Venture Monitor report. The conversation further contextualized how US VC investments in 2021 compared to the previous year’s totals, the growth of VC mega-deals, VC’s strong returns and 2021’s astounding IPO window. Additionally, the panelists highlighted what might lie ahead and provided an analysis of the competitive environment as well as other market considerations.

Key takeaways include:

  • In 2021, US VC investment topped $329 billion for the first time, nearly doubling 2020’s total of $166.6 billion
  • Strong VC returns in recent years continue to encourage capital inflow into strategy
  • The IPO window in 2021 allowed an incredible $774.1 billion exit value
  • The potential for greater uncertainty on the public listing market in 2022
