Generating publicity buzz with a custom research report
Runway Growth Capital sought to elevate its visibility and thought leadership on venture debt across the broader venture ecosystem. The company had worked with other data providers but found them to be cost-prohibitive, lacking the comprehensive insights, credibility, and extensive network that PitchBook is known for, particularly in the private credit and venture debt market.
Andy Mizerek, Runway Growth Capital’s Senior Director of Marketing, used PitchBook’s custom research capabilities to produce the Venture Debt Review, the firm’s annual report on venture debt. His team then secured a feature story in the Wall Street Journal, which has approximately 80 million readers per month. This resulted in increased exposure, and the firm expects to have three times as many downloads as the previous report.
Without PitchBook, producing the report took twice as long. After fielding a survey, the team still had to analyze the results and build a compelling data story. This is where the PitchBook team stepped in with its expertise.
“PitchBook created a turnkey experience for us that significantly accelerated our production schedule,” added Mizerek. “We asked for support in creating thought leadership, and PitchBook provided us the structure and framework to get that done.”
PitchBook’s analysts helped develop a cohesive narrative from the survey data, with additional insights from PitchBook’s best-in-class private market data. “PitchBook kept us on track and delivered on time. We would highly recommend their custom research to other companies looking to produce thought leadership,” said Mizerek.
As for what’s next, Runway Growth Capital announced its acquisition of SWK Holdings, a life science-focused specialty finance company that provides minimally dilutive financing to small- and mid-sized commercial-stage healthcare companies. The transaction is set to increase Runway’s balance sheet to $1.3 billion in assets.
In a dynamic market environment, PitchBook’s data helps Runway Growth Capital stay at the leading edge of the venture ecosystem. “We use PitchBook’s data to keep tabs on the growth of the industry across various sectors,” said Mizerek. “They have been a strong partner who we look forward to working with in the future.”
The team already has plans to partner with PitchBook on future editions of the Venture Debt Review.
