Help: Understanding Analyst-Curated Verticals

Learn about what Analyst-Curated Verticals are and how to access them.

Overview

Analyst-Curated Verticals help you quickly identify core players in high-interest markets without sifting through every company that touches a space. Our Emerging Tech analysts manually select companies where that vertical is their primary focus, filtering out the broader keyword-based tagging used in standard verticals. In this article, you’ll learn which verticals are covered, how to find and navigate them, and how analysts select companies for inclusion.

Methodology

Analyst-Curated Verticals are manually curated subsets of PitchBook’s standard verticals. Our Emerging Tech analysts review companies and select only those where that vertical represents their primary business focus. This curation helps you quickly identify the companies that truly define each market.

Like standard verticals, Analyst-Curated Verticals are structured to cut across industries, meaning a single vertical can include companies from various industries. You may notice that there are some similarly named verticals and Analyst-Curated Verticals. However, unlike industries where every company must be tagged, not every company in a standard vertical will appear in its curated counterpart; it will only contain companies that have that vertical as their primary business focus.

For example, Huel is tagged to three standard verticals: E-Commerce, FoodTech, and LOHAS & Wellness. Since its main focus is to provide nutritional meal supplements, it appears in the FoodTech Analyst-Curated Vertical. Even though Huel sells its products through the Internet, it does not appear in the E-Commerce Analyst-Curated Vertical because our analysts aim to ensure that every company included in a curated vertical works primarily within that specific space.
