Getting started

Help: Getting started with the PitchBook HubSpot CRM Plugin

Learn the steps to install the HubSpot Plugin for PitchBook.

Overview

The PitchBook HubSpot Plugin lets you view and import PitchBook information directly into HubSpot. This guide outlines the steps to integrate PitchBook data into your HubSpot instance, including the required roles, the installation process, and how to customize your HubSpot layout.

Required roles

Implementing this plugin involves several technical steps to be completed by a HubSpot Admin at your organization and a HubSpot Plugin Admin. Below we have defined these roles:

HubSpot Admin:

A HubSpot user with app marketplace access and the ability to view and edit objects and page layouts. Below, we have highlighted the required CRM access:

Object Access

  • View & Edit “Everything” access for Companies
  • View & Edit “Everything” access for Contacts

HubSpot Plugin Admin:

A user with access to both PitchBook and HubSpot (no admin rights required). Their login connects PitchBook to HubSpot. If their HubSpot account is deactivated, the connection breaks, and a new user must take over the role. The selected Plugin Admin should notify their Account Manager or PitchBook Support. Once notified, the PitchBook team grants the necessary permissions to complete the setup.

Minimum system requirements

To ensure proper display and functionality, the following system requirements must be met:

  • Space for 86 custom fields on the Company object.
  • Space for five custom fields on the Contact object.
  • Ability to accept third-party cookies from PitchBook in the internet browser.

Installation process

This section outlines the steps to install the HubSpot CRM Plugin.

Connect the PitchBook Plugin to PitchBook

To allow data to flow into your HubSpot instance, you must connect the PitchBook Platform to the Plugin. This step must be completed by the HubSpot Plugin Admin (as defined earlier in this guide). This user must have:

  • Access to both PitchBook and HubSpot
  • An active account in both systems, since the plugin authentication depends on this user’s credentials

The steps:

Notify your PitchBook Account Manager or the PitchBook Support team who will serve as the HubSpot Plugin Admin. Once informed, they activate the HubSpot Plugin page for you.

    1. Open the PitchBook Platform and head to the My PitchBook section of the left-hand sidebar.
    2. Navigate to the HubSpot Plugin page from Plugins & Apps.
    3. Toggle to the Settings tab.
    4. Select Setup OAuth Credentials.
    5. When prompted, connect to the HubSpot account linked to the Plugin Admin’s email address.

    Customize your HubSpot layout

This section explains how to customize the layout of company or contact records in HubSpot after integrating the PitchBook plugin.

    1. Start by navigating to Settings and selecting the object you’d like to edit under Data Management.
    2. The PitchBook Plugin for HubSpot is only compatible with Company and Contact objects. Once selected, click Record Customization.

    Widget vs. Fields:

    • Widget:

      • A visual panel that appears in the HubSpot sidebar.
      • Allows you to manually link a HubSpot company or contact to a PitchBook profile.
      • Once linked, it displays a live iFrame view of the PitchBook profile directly inside HubSpot.
    • Fields:

      • Individual data points (like funding info, company size, etc.) that are synced from PitchBook.
      • These can be displayed directly on the record layout and seen by all HubSpot users, even those without PitchBook access.

    PitchBook fields in HubSpot

To help you easily navigate the PitchBook fields, we recommend creating three dedicated sections in your HubSpot layout:

    • PB Basic
    • PB Investor
    • PB Company

    How to add these sections:

    1. In the left sidebar, click on Add cards.
    2. Select Create card.
    3. Choose the Property list (small) type.
    4. Name the card (e.g., PB Basic, PB Investor, or PB Company).
    5. Add the relevant PitchBook properties to each section.
