Our PitchBook analyst team builds market maps based on their research, analysis, and findings. These are hand-curated, proprietary market maps that are updated on a quarterly basis and are built by industry experts. Find market maps that accompany PitchBook’s Emerging Technology Research reports, as well as market maps that our analysts have built for other novel market spaces.
To find a list of all PitchBook analyst market maps, start on the market maps homepage and click on View All Market Maps to the right of the search box. Alternatively, tap View All Maps under Your Recently Viewed. Or thirdly, tap View All PitchBook Maps in the Most Popular On PitchBook and Recently Added by PitchBook sections.

Within a market map, you can view the full list of underlying company data, make changes, and save your custom map for later use.
Click View All in the blue ribbon above the company table to see all companies included in a market map in a search results format. Or, you can select the individual segment names to the right of View All to see all companies within that particular segment.
Once you have clicked View All, continue to use the blue ribbon above the table to access additional tools.
- View any Notes on the companies within your search using the link on the right side of the ribbon.
- To add or remove columns, click Edit table, then Edit Columns. The columns available in this view align with the options in company search results.
- A Download option is also available in the ribbon.
Within the View All screen, you can also adjust many features of the market map, such as the companies included, segment display, and sorting.
Once you have created your market map, you have the option to save it as a search or as a list so that you can refer to it later. There are two different ways to do this: from the search criteria and from the market map.
After you save a market map, you can find it on the Market Maps homepage or within the Saved Searches & Lists section under My PitchBook in the PitchBook sidebar.
If you’re curious about the difference between searches and lists, we address this in the question What is the difference between a saved search and a saved list?
You can share a market map with your team so they can view and edit it. There are two sharing pathways to choose from, both located in the upper right corner of the page: the Share button and the Link icon.
To share with the Share button:
- Click the Share button. If you haven’t already saved your market map, you will be prompted to save it as a search or list first.
- After saving, you’ll be brought to the Share menu, where you can Invite with Email or Invite with Link.
To share with the Link icon:
- Click the link icon to the right of the Share button.
- Your market map link will be copied to your clipboard and will be immediately ready for you to paste and share. This function is similar to Invite with Link, but the sharing options depend on whether your market map is saved or unsaved.
Each method of sharing a market map supports sharing with users within your own PitchBook license. Some options also support sharing with other types of users.
| Share within users on the same PitchBook license | Share with PitchBook users on a different license | Share with non-licensed users | |
| Invite with Email in Share menu | ✓ The format depends on the permissions level selected. See the next section for more details. | ✓ The recipient will receive a copy of the market map. For privacy reasons, the platform does not indicate whether the user has a PitchBook license when you enter their email address. As a result, you cannot share the search this way if you have insufficient downloads available to share with a non-licensed recipient. | ✓ The recipient will be sent an Excel download of the market map’s contents. This Excel download will count toward your download limits when you send it. You cannot share the search if you have insufficient downloads available. |
| Invite with Link in Share menu | ✓ The format depends on the permissions level selected. See the next section for more details. | ✓ The recipient will receive a copy of the market map. | X The link will take the recipient to the PitchBook login page. They will not be able to access the market map. |
| Link icon | ✓ The format depends on whether you have previously saved this market map. See the next section for more details. | ✓ The recipient will receive a copy of the market map. | X The link will take the recipient to the PitchBook login page. They will not be able to access the market map. |
There are three levels of permission access available when sharing a market map.
Note: The permission levels only apply to users within your PitchBook license. See the chart above to learn about sharing with other users.
Sharing with the Share menu
When you use the Share menu to share with email or a link, you need to select a permission level before sharing.
- Can Edit: Your colleague will be added as a collaborator on your market map and will be able to edit the market map, such as adding or removing companies.
- Can View: Your colleague will be added as a collaborator on your market map with view-only permissions. They will not be able to edit the search.
- Receives a Copy: Your colleague will receive a copy of your market map, in the form of an identical market map. They can save this market map to their own account, but they will not be added as a collaborator to your market map.
Sharing with the Link icon
When you use the Link icon, the default access allowed to users on your PitchBook license depends on whether you are sharing a saved or unsaved search.
- If your market map is saved: The colleague will be added as a collaborator on your market map and will be able to edit the market map, including adding or removing companies. To change the permission level, open the Share menu and change the access level to Can View or Receives a Copy.
- If your market map is not saved: Your colleague will receive a copy of your market map.
Managing collaborators
There are two access points to manage your collaborators after sharing your market map. You can click the Share button and on the menu navigate over to the Manage Collaborators tab, or you can click the people icons featured on the top right of your page. Each of these access points will lead you to the Collaborators tab of the Share menu. Check out our Collaborating in PitchBook article for details on how you can use this tool.
You can download a market map as a PNG, PDF, or PPT file. If you do not wish to download the map itself, but only the logos, you can also download the logos as PNG files. If you need company data, rather than the map itself, you can download an Excel file of the underlying data. To begin downloading, select Download from the upper right corner of your map and choose a download option.
Downloads of logos in PNG format do not count toward your PitchBook downloads. However, the Excel file of underlying data does count toward your download limits.
