International Fund For Agricultural Development General Information
Description
Founded in 1977, International Fund For Agricultural Development is a Rome, Italy-based U.N. agency focused on agricultural development in developing countries. Historically, IFAD has provided financing to sovereign governments. With a new private sector investment strategy launched in September 2019, IFAD also makes investments in the private sector to support rural small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs), cooperatives, and smallholder farmers. This enables IFAD to fund a wider range of projects increasing smallholder productivity, incomes, and food security and promoting the use of climate-smart practices. IFAD's strategy also aims to attract more private sector funding to small-scale agriculture.
