Mr. Usmanov has also gained international acclaim as a visionary investor due to his highly profitable early-stage investments in some of the fastest-growing internet and high-tech companies, including Facebook and Alibaba. Separately, Mr. Usmanov owns Kommersant Publishing House, the leading business media organization in Russia, and Khimki Group, an innovative Russian real estate developer, and is a major shareholder in UTH Russia, one of the country's largest private media companies. He also holds a stake in Arsenal Football Club.Mr. Usmanov attaches great significance to philanthropic activities and has been recognised on several occasions for his initiatives in this area. From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Usmanov headed Interfin Interbank Investment and Finance Company. Between 1995 and 1997, he was the first deputy chairman of MAPO-Bank. From 1994 to 1995, he was an adviser to the general director of Moscow Aviation Industrial Enterprise. From 1990 until 1994, Mr. Usmanov worked as the deputy general director of Intercross JSC. Mr. Usmanov graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations with a degree in international law in 1976, and he received a degree in banking from the Finance Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation in 1997.
