Help: Installing the PitchBook Excel Plugin

Learn how to install the Excel Plugin for Windows and Mac/ Office 356 devices.

Overview

Easily bring PitchBook’s data into Excel using the PitchBook Excel Plugin. Included with your PitchBook license, the Excel Plugin provides a whole range of tools to help you build accurate and robust financial models. From templates and tear sheets to our comprehensive formula builder, the Excel Plugin offers the perfect solution to help you manipulate PitchBook data in Excel the way you want it.

This article provides the steps to begin using the Excel Plugin, including installing and logging in for Windows, Mac, and Office 365.

Installing the Excel Plugin for Windows

System requirements

Before installing the PitchBook Excel Plugin for Windows, check if your computer meets the following system requirements:

  • Microsoft Windows 8 and newer versions.
  • Microsoft Office Excel for Desktop (32/64bit) 2013 and newer versions. PitchBook doesn’t support Office 2007 and 2010.
  • Administrative rights to install applications on your computer.

Installation

1. To install, first log into the PitchBook Platform.
2. Next, hover your mouse over the Plugins & Apps tab within the My PitchBooksection of the left sidebar. Select the Excel Plugin option from the fly-out.
3. Tap the Download for Windows button.

4. Tapping this option will trigger a file download to your computer. Find and open the file named PitchBook_Plugin_Setup.exe  in your documents.

5. A Wizard pop-up will then open. Follow the simple instructions from the pop-up to complete the installation process. You will know that you have successfully installed the PitchBook Excel Plugin when the PitchBook tab shows in the top ribbon of your Excel program. 

Note: When installing the Excel Plugin, a partner program called the PitchBook Plugin Diagnostic Tool will also download, enabling us to better assist you should issues arise with the plugin.

Logging in

1. The next step after downloading is to log in. Start by heading to your Excel program and tap the PitchBook tab that will appear on the Excel ribbon.

2. Next, select Log in to PitchBook from the left of your Excel window.

3. Next, a pop-up window will appear. From the pop-up, tap the Log in to PitchBook Excel Plugin button. Selecting this option will take you to a web page where you can input your PitchBook login credentials to log in to the Excel Plugin.

Installing the Excel Plugin for Mac/Office 365

The installation process is the same if you are using a Mac or Office 365.

System requirements for Mac

To install the PitchBook Excel Plugin for Mac, your computer must meet the following system requirements:

  • Microsoft Excel for Mac version 16.40 and newer versions.
  • Have Chrome, Mozilla, Edge, or Safari installed.

System requirements for Office 365

To install the PitchBook Excel Plugin for Office 365, check if your Microsoft account meets the following requirements:

  • Office 365 subscription

Installation

To install the PitchBook Excel Plugin for your Mac or Office 365 device, you will need to start from your Excel desktop app. 

1. Go to your Excel program and click on the Home tab.
2. Select Add-ins.
3. Search “PitchBook” in the search bar.
4. Click Add.

Logging in

1. Start by navigating to the PitchBook 365 tab in the Excel menu.
2. Click the All Settings button, then Sign In.

3. Next, a pop-up window will appear. From the pop-up, tap the Log in to PitchBook Excel Plugin button. Selecting this option will take you to a web page where you can input your PitchBook login credentials to log in to the Excel Plugin.
