Help: PitchBook Microsoft Dynamics Plugin user guide
Learn about PitchBook’s Microsoft Dynamics CRM Plugin, including installing, linking accounts, field mapping, and troubleshooting.
The Microsoft Dynamics (MS Dynamics) Plugin enhances your CRM with PitchBook’s comprehensive data, helping you identify the right contacts and close deals faster.
You can import essential details on companies, people, and deals directly into your accounts, with data updates occurring weekly for seamless syncing. This article provides the information you need to get the most out of PitchBook’s Microsoft Dynamics Plugin.
Follow the steps below to start your Microsoft Dynamics integration journey with PitchBook:
- Head to the My PitchBook section at the top of the left-hand side-bar of the PitchBook Platform.
- Hover over Plugins & Apps and select Microsoft Dynamics Plugin.
- From the pop-up, tap the blue Contact Account Manager button.
The team then works with your account manager and takes the necessary steps to set up the Microsoft Dynamics connection on the PitchBook side.
Once this setup has been completed, your account manager will reach out to you and give you the necessary steps to go ahead with the installation on your system.

Once you have installed the MS Dynamics Plugin, field mapping is the next step. Field mapping is the process of connecting (or “mapping”) data fields between MS Dynamics and the PitchBook Platform.
When you integrate your Microsoft Dynamics CRM with PitchBook, both systems may have the same information, but it may be named differently.
- To map the data, head to the Plugins & Apps section of the left-hand side-bar of the main PitchBook Platform. Select Microsoft Dynamics CRM from the flyout.
- Next, you will see PitchBook Field next to the Microsoft Dynamics Field. If you’re happy with the matched fields and for PitchBook to automatically pull data into your Dynamics fields, check the Auto Sync box.
In the Appendix, we have listed standard field mapping settings.
Ready to get started?
Once you have installed the Microsoft Dynamics Plugin and mapped your fields, you can begin linking and syncing.
Linking
Once installed, the PitchBook Plugin for Microsoft Dynamics automatically tries to link your Dynamics objects (Accounts, Contacts, Leads) with PitchBook entities. Authorized users can also manually link or update profiles via the PitchBook iFrame in Dynamics.
Every Saturday at 2 AM EST, PitchBook uses Dynamics Admin Credentials to pull all unlinked Accounts, Contacts, and Leads (those without a PitchBook ID). It retrieves Dynamics IDs along with Account Names or Websites, then runs a matching algorithm. For exact matches, it saves the PitchBook ID and immediately deletes Account Names.
Matching logic:
- Accounts: First matches by website; if no website match, then by exact Account Name. Website formats don’t have to match exactly (e.g., apple.com and www.apple.com are considered the same).
- Contacts and Leads: Matches by email address. Dynamics IDs and emails are retrieved; emails are immediately deleted after matching and not stored.
The next section outlines manually linking in the Microsoft Dynamics Plugin.
- Start by viewing an object in Microsoft Dynamics that you would like to link to PitchBook, like an account. Once on the account, navigate to the PitchBook Data tab.
- On the PitchBook Data tab, you will see the PitchBook iFrame and a list of potential matches within the PitchBook Platform. Search the list and click Link once you have identified the PitchBook profile you wish to associate with this Account.
- A successful link will populate the “PitchBook ID” field on the Account page. The PitchBook Plugin window/widget will refresh and display information on that company from PitchBook’s database. The widget allows you to manually link a MS Dynamics object (Account, Contact, or Lead) to a PitchBook profile. Once connected, the widget hosts an instance of the PitchBook profile within the MS Dynamics account page, saving you from having to toggle between two windows to view relevant data.
Syncing
Syncing updates your Account, Contact, and Lead pages with the latest data from PitchBook across 83 fields. Once synced, a record stays updated for the duration of the license.
1. Each click of the Sync button on an Account, Contact, or Lead counts as one sync. Importing a Contact or Lead from PitchBook, is also counts as a sync. Sync limits apply at the account level (not per user).
2. You can manually sync from the PitchBook Fields section of the account you are wishing to sync by clicking the PitchBook tab and then Sync.
3. When you select Sync, a window opens showing which Account fields will be updated, the current data, and the new PitchBook data. You can choose to keep existing data or import new data using radial buttons. After selecting, click Sync to update your PitchBook fields. If you have linking issues, contact Support.
Every Sunday at 12 AM EST, PitchBook uses Dynamics Admin credentials to auto-sync custom fields on all linked Accounts. Once an Account is synced, it continues to update automatically every Sunday at 5 AM EST.
“PitchBook is the gold standard for data on privately-backed companies and the VC and PE ecosystem. Over the years they have expanded their coverage to provide excellent data on public companies and M&A as well, and have vastly increased the coverage on international companies. The platform is intuitive and easy-to-use and customer service is top-notch.”
