Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with US President Donald Trump wasn't the only item on the agenda in Washington, DC, during his two-day visit. Modi also convened a CEO roundtable that included several of the biggest names in tech, including Apple’s Tim Cook, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Google’s Sundar Pichai. The group reportedly discussed India's current regulatory environment—with several CEOs expressing concerns—as well as the state of US investment in the world's second-most populous country.
Since the beginning of 2015, US-based VCs have participated in deals funneling a total of $8.5 billion to companies located in India, according to the PitchBook Platform, including unicorns like Flipkart and Ola. Both deal count and capital invested declined significantly last year, however, with the number of investments currently on pace to fall again in 2017.
