The top 8 VC Investors in the DC metro area

President Donald Trump has reportedly invited an undisclosed group of VCs and techies to The White House for a meeting on June 22, per BuzzFeed, with a discussion of IoT, drones and other emerging tech trends on the agenda. The meeting is being organized by US Deputy Chief Technology Officer Michael Kratsios, who also happens to be Peter Thiel's former chief of staff.
News of this meeting got us thinking about venture activity in the nation’s capital, and it turns out that 2017 may be a banner year for VC in Washington, DC. Since the beginning of 2012, $5.5 billion has been invested in the metro area, peaking in 2015 with $1.2 billion across 151 deals. This year alone, 49 companies have secured a total of $670 million, per the PitchBook Platform, putting the region on pace to raise more than $1.3 billion by year's end.
Here are the top eight VC investors in the DC metro area since the beginning of 2012, along with deal counts (excluding accelerator rounds):
