Wenner-Gren Foundation is an independent non-profit foundation based in New York, New York. Established in 1941, the foundation was created and endowed in 1941 as The Viking Fund by Axel Wenner-Gren. In 1951 the name was changed to the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research. The foundation is committed to the advancement of anthropology throughout the world, through various programs supporting research, conferences, fellowships, networking, and publication. The foundation is dedicated to engagement with anthropological disciplines focusing on human origins, development, and variation. The assets of the foundation are managed by the board of trustees.
