General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Lyft are planning to launch thousands of electric self-driving cars starting next year, according to Reuters. The two companies have been working together for some time now, with the partnership tracing its origins to a $500 million investment GM made in Lyft’s $1 billion fundraise last year. Then, in May, they announced a pilot program to launch a fleet of self-driving cars for the ridesharing service. This program is likely being fueled by Cruise, an autonomous vehicle startup GM purchased last March for a reported $1 billion.
