Although Washington might not come first to mind when thinking of hot startup locales, the state is home to a burgeoning entrepreneurial community and a group of active investors betting on its success.
Since the beginning of 2015, 388 venture investors have participated in at least one of the 306 financings completed for startups based in Washington, according to the PitchBook Platform. Deal count has held steady over the last two years, hitting 146 in 2015 and 143 in 2016. Annual capital invested, though, has dropped a bit, from $1.65 billion in 2015 to $1.31 billion last year.
