Dr. Yossi Matias is the Co-Founder & served as Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer at Zapper Technologies. He also serves as Vice President of Engineering at Google for Startups Accelerator. As a leading innovator in global Internet and privacy technologies, Dr. Yossi Matias brings a unique combination of computer science and technology experience - in both academic and industrial research - to Zapper Technologies. He has authored numerous research papers and holds over 13 patents, with an additional 20 patents pending, on diverse technologies including video scrambling, data structures, query processing, parallel computing, data compression, database technologies, Internet technologies and electronic commerce. As an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Tel Aviv University, Dr. Matias' research involved information storage and retrieval, query processing for massive data sets, parallel computation, data compression, Internet technologies and e-commerce. Before his tenure at Tel Aviv University, Dr. Matias spent five years at Bell Laboratories where he led projects related to Internet technologies and massive databases. He has served as an expert academic advisor to the Platform for Privacy Preferences Project of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), was a member of the Ad-Hoc Working Group on Unsolicited Commercial Email and was a signatory on the report submitted to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Dr. Matias received his Ph.D., with distinction, in Computer Science from Tel Aviv University. He earned his M.Sc. from the Weizmann Institute and his B.Sc, cum laude, from Tel Aviv University - both degrees in Computer Science. Before beginning his computer science education, Dr. Matias was a pilot in the Israeli Air Force (IAF).
