More than 1,700 startups headquartered in Greater New York City have received venture capital funding so far in 2024, and the top 25 most valuable of those have a combined valuation of nearly $120.1 billion. Across the metro area this year, more than $24.5 billion has been invested in VC-backed startups, which operate across every imaginable sector and vertical—from cryptocurrency to healthtech and real estate tech.

In this blog post, we’re looking at top New York City area startups based on post-money valuation that have received venture capital funding in 2024 through December 3. This data is inclusive of the entire New York City metropolitan statistical area (MSA), which includes New York, Newark, and Jersey City.

Wiz is the developer of a cloud security platform that helps businesses secure their infrastructure at scale. Headquartered in Manhattan, the startup has raised $1.8 billion to date. Wiz most recently raised VC funding in May 2024, though Insight Partners more recently sold a stake in the company to an undisclosed buyer in September 2024.

2. CoreWeave

Founded in 2017, CoreWeave offers a specialized cloud computing system that accelerates AI, ML, and other project workflows and matches the complexity of models, enabling clients to scale and adapt. Most recently, it raised an undisclosed amount of later-stage venture funding in May 2024 from Cyverse Capital, Haun Ventures Management, and Leyden Ventures. Angel investors Idan Levin and Ivan Brightly also participated in the round.

Most recently, the company raised $150 million of Series D2 venture funding in a deal led by 8VC, Greylock, and Khosla Ventures in April 2024.

Founded in 2016, the startup’s most recent funding round was in May 2024—an undisclosed amount of later-stage VC from Beyond Capital, Bossa Invest, Capital Advantage Ventures, Helios Ventures, Mana Ventures, and MicroVentures.
