Artemis Health, a Salt Lake City-based provider of data analytics on health insurance for employers, has announced an $8.3 million Series A round. The funding continues what's so far been an active year for VC investment in Utah, with deal count on track to easily outpace 2016. Another significant recent example is Provo-based Qualtrics, an online research platform provider that pulled in $180 million in April at a $2.5 billion valuation.
Since the beginning of 2012, 284 investors have participated in at least one round in the state, with 172 Utah companies pulling in about $3.2 billion in combined funding, per the PitchBook Platform. More than half of the 272 VC deals in the state in the past five-plus years have involved companies in the software industry, with healthcare devices & supplies (8.5%) and commercial services (8.1%) being the next busiest sectors. The majority of the transactions (39%) have been in the $1 million to $5 million range, and about 15% have totaled between $10 million and $25 million.
