The top 12 VC investors in European Series C rounds

Despite declining deal counts, VCs are still splashing the cash on late-stage transactions. Check out the 12 most active investors in European Series C rounds since the start of 2015.

When it comes to European venture capital, “bigger is better” appears to be the motto, with increasing capital spread across a decreasing number of investments. According to data from PitchBook, the decline in deal counts—which is occurring not just in Europe but globally as well—has hit the early-stage and angel & seed spaces the hardest. In contrast, VC firms remain relatively eager to invest in late-stage rounds.

This means that if you’re a European startup with a convincing business plan and seeking to raise Series C funding, chances of securing capital are better than those of your counterparts at the earlier stages. Transactions in this category peaked last year with investors spending more than €1.8 billion across 62 deals, up from €1.45 billion across 59 deals in 2017.

Europe has seen some notable Series C deals of late, including Revolut‘s latest investment of $250 million led by DST Global, which propelled the fintech to unicorn status with a reported valuation of $1.7 billion. More recently, agtech startup Ynsect raised a reported €110 million in February from investors including Bpifrance and Talis Capital.
